On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August, the museum is organising a grand Roman Festival. Both the museum and the surrounding squares will be buzzing with activity.
Step into Roman Tongeren and stroll through a lively market. Discover 2,000-year-old crafts up close as you browse the workshops of blacksmiths, potters, textile and leather workers… Over 50 talented re-enactors spread across 17 stands will let you feel, smell and taste the past.
Experience spectacular gladiator shows, have your portrait done as a Roman, enjoy Latin chants or lose yourself in a captivating mythological tale, told in the atmospheric cloister garden of the Teseum.
In the museum, children can take part in creative activities: building a Roman townhouse or designing and colouring a marble tile. For adults there are inspiring workshops. A fascinating tasting lecture by food archaeologist Jeroen Van Vaerenbergh – including a tasting! – is also on offer.
Would you like to delve even deeper into the region’s Roman past? Our guides will be on hand in the museum to answer all your questions about our extensive collection.
