Planning a visit to the Gallo-Roman Museum? Your best bet is to book your ticket in advance. That way you are guaranteed a visit to the museum and we are spared the task of disappointing you at the ticket desk.
In Roman times, Tongeren was the capital of the Civitas Tungrorum. This administrative district stretched over eastern Flanders and a large part of Wallonia, with adjacent parts in the Netherlands, Germany, France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Together with Ghent University, we have mapped the findings from this extensive area, from the Iron Age to the early Middle Ages. Part of the database is accessible to the public online. The project offers many opportunities, especially for researchers. Contact us to discuss collaboration possibilities.
The Gallo-Roman Museum is interested in participating in any scientific research regarding the Civitas Tungrorum. We would also be happy to discuss your ideas on this.
