Tongeren

The Gallo-Roman Museum is located in Tongeren, the country’s oldest city. The museum is situated in the centre of the city, not far from Our Blessed Lady Basilica. You cannot miss it from there.

You’ll find the main entrance to the museum on the museumsquare (Museumplein).

By train

The museum is easy to reach by train. Tongeren train station is less than a 10-minute walk from the museum. Please visit the website nmbs.be for travel info, train hours and tickets

Tip: Bring a visit to our permanent exhibition by taking the train. Buy a Discovery Ticket and you will enjoy a 50% discount on your return travel.

By bus

Tongeren is easy to reach from Sint-Truiden, Hasselt, Genk, Liège and Maastricht. The station is a 10-minute walk from the museum. Timetable: www.delijn.be.

By coach

It is best for coaches to be parked on/at Eeuwfeestwal (10-minute walk) or at Fonteindreef – Pliniuspark (20-minute walk). If the latter option is chosen, it is best for the passengers to alight at Sint-Truiderstraat.

By car

Tongeren is less than one hour away from Antwerp, Brussels or Aachen by car. From Hasselt, Liège or Maastricht you are here in 30 minutes.

Parking within walking distance of the museum is available at one of the three paying public Q-Park car parks: ‘Julianus’, ‘Centrum’ and ‘Grote Markt’. When you get to ‘de Wallen’(R72), follow the dynamic parking signs. Free parking is available at De Motten peripheral parking (drive in via Dijk at the intersection with Wijkstraat and Leopoldwal).
